We had a lovely mid June break at 32 Apple Grove. Caravan is a bit dated and in need of some refurbishment but we felt that was reflected in the price. Having said that, it had everything we needed and was clean and tidy. It was in an ideal position for us oldies, being near to the bus stop and the beach bar. The decking area was a real bonus, having a lovely sea view and getting the sun all day. A good value for money holiday!

A cracking value for money holiday!

TL:DR? Great van. Lots to do. Shopping nearby. Excellent part of the world.

We stayed in this caravan during the first week of June. I’ll definitely book away from Haven – comms were great, including an early text to let us know that the caravan was available. I can’t imagine any Caravan operator doing that!

Everything was ready for us. Whilst this caravan is an older style one, it was clean and tidy. Everything there was as you needed it. The veranda is great and we used it every time the sun came out. It’s conveniently located for the beach and the Restaurant / Bar – which allows dogs (unlike the main area).

In fact, we didn’t actually use the main centre much other than to try out the noodle bar (was great!) and some bits and bobs from the shops. We did have a quick look around and I’m sure if you’re after an active holiday with children (mine are now grown up), then it’s as good a Haven for stuff to do as I’ve ever seen (and I did a lot when my Children were younger having worked within the same parent company)

Other than on-site, there are plenty of nearby things to do. If walking is your thing and you’re fit, use the footpath to Exmouth (2.5 miles but less if you’re only going to the beach/cafe/RNLI) or Budleigh Salterton (2.75 miles). World of Country Life looks great for families – it’s a mixture of an open farm and other farming activities.

Tesco is only a few minutes drive. Go further down the road and there’s a Lidl. Then another 1/4 of a mile, there’s Home Bargains, McDonalds, Pets at Home etc. You don’t need to go anywhere near Exmouth to get big shops!

Downsides? Nothing huge. Because this caravan is inside, you can’t park outside. We were lucky, because our neighbours didn’t actually drive, so we could use their drive for loading etc. And to be fair, unlike many other caravans that aren’t on the road edge, you can park very close anyway. I went round the site and many caravans aren’t close to the road or tracks at all!

The shower was mostly blocked when we got there, but as we’d realised quickly, we nipped down to Tesco and sorted that without a fuss.

The gas boiler had a habit of blowing its pilot light out. We phoned up the helpline on the 2nd day when this happened (the lady was responsive and helpful) and it was an easy fix. But it did this 3 or 4 times during the holiday, so it might be useful to leave instructions nearby!

We’d definitely come back. Great value for money (particularly if you don’t need passes). If we do, we’ll come before May or after September as dogs aren’t allowed on the beach. And possibly try and find one that we can park outside.
